MADEIRA Multilingual School opened in September 1980 and it is the only multilingual international school in Madeira.

We are proud of our journey and of the traditions that we have created. We are innovative, always striving to reflect the best current practices and adapting to changing requirements. Our facilities in Caminho dos Saltos, into which the School moved in September 2006, offer ideal conditions. The classrooms are bright and airy and all are equipped with an interactive whiteboard. We have a well equipped library, a computer room and a covered playground. The relationship with APEL, our neighbours on the school campus with whom we have a partnership, allows our students access to excellent sporting facilities.

MADEIRA Multilingual School teaches students between 3 and 15 years of age in its main building. In September 2012, the School also opened a crèche for students from 9 months upward. This is housed in a separate building on the campus with its own secure outdoor play area and spacious, well-lit classrooms for our youngest students.

From Junior 1 onwards, Chinese is included in the curriculum and, in Junior 6, students begin to study Russian.

We are a candidate school for the IB* (International Baccalaureate) which is a high-quality educational programme taught in 150 countries. In Portugal, only 6 schools currently offer IB.

We believe that studying at an IB school makes a difference when it comes to getting into the best universities entering the competitive international job market.

We want our students to be successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors. Our students learn and are encouraged to be independent. They carry out research and discover for themselves. MMS values all students and celebrates their successes and there is a strong sense of community. The school environment is safe and friendly, with firm but fair discipline. Solid support is provided to students, teaching and non-teaching staff.

It is also essential to take care of each student, by being fair and instilling in them respect for themselves, for others, the wider community and the environment, to impart a sense of responsibility and, furthermore, to  encourage and allow students and staff to do their best and build on their own achievements.

Close home/school contact is a crucial aspect of a child’s full and balanced growth. Whilst the School is not at the core of a child’s education (the family plays the pivotal role here), it has the obligation to contribute to their personal and social development. We are in the process of setting up a “Parents Club”.

Choosing a school for your child is a very important decision. MADEIRA Multilingual School offers and friendly and happy environment combining hard work with enthusiasm. The School motto “The pride of learning, the passion of teaching” clearly reflects our mission: to provide a high quality, multilingual education in an environment where everyone is happy, motivated and valued.

I am looking forward to meeting you and your family and showing you our school.

You will be warmly welcomed if you come and visit.
